addendum

I meant to post this picture with the rest of the story, but better late than never, right? The reason it is in existence is that I mentioned to Daniel, the nurse who served as my exchange transfusion assistant, that friends at home were going to have a hard time believing I had actually had to do this on my own. He, realizing that I had a camera with me, offered to serve as photographer to document the occasion. I look pretty goofy, but it is proof, I guess.
